The Boxy Sweater Knitting Pattern
One simple pattern. Endless possibilities.
The Boxy Sweater is exactly what it sounds like. A simple, oversized sweater with a relaxed boxy fit, made from just four rectangles.
No shaping. No complicated neckline. No picking up stitches.
The Front and Back are identical, the sleeves are simple rectangles and everything is worked flat before being sewn together.
It is knitted in Aran / worsted weight yarn using stocking stitch, giving you a lighter, drapier sweater that is incredibly easy to make your own.
Keep it completely plain. Play with colour. Add the little ridges shown in my sample. Use one beautiful yarn throughout or gather together some favourites.
The pattern gives you the basic shape. What you do with it is entirely up to you.
Sizes:
UK 6–8 (10–12, 14–16, 18–20)
Yarn:
Aran / worsted weight
Approx. 500g (500g, 500g, 600g)
Needles:
6.5mm
Tension:
Approx. 14 stitches × 21 rows = 10cm / 4in in stocking stitch.

The sweater pictured was knitted using a mixture of hand-dyed Aran weight yarns, mostly from one independent dyer (What Mustard Made) alongside a few leftover yarns and scraps from my stash.
There isn’t an exact yarn or colour combination to recreate this sweater. I simply changed yarns as I went, choosing colours that worked together and adding in little leftovers along the way.
Use the sample as inspiration rather than a recipe. Gather together your favourite Aran / worsted weight yarns and see where they take you.
For the UK 14–16 sample pictured, I used approximately 450g of yarn in total.
