My First Sweater - Easy Knitting Pattern - Super Chunky PDF
So, you’ve learned to knit. Fancy making a sweater?
My First Sweater was designed to make that first step from I can knit to I made something I can actually wear feel a lot less intimidating.
The whole sweater is made from just four simple rectangles: one Front, one Back and two Sleeves. They’re knitted flat in garter stitch and sewn together at the end.
If you can cast on, knit and cast off, you already know everything you need to make it.
The pattern itself is written especially for complete beginners. As well as the actual knitting instructions, I’ve included a little help with reading your first knitting pattern, choosing your size, understanding positive ease, checking your tension and putting everything together at the end.
There are plenty of photographs along the way too, because sometimes seeing what on earth I’m talking about is much more useful than another paragraph of knitting language.
You’ll need:
Super Chunky yarn
800 (1000, 1200, 1400, 1600, 1800) g
12 mm knitting needles
A tapestry needle
Scissors
A tape measure
The pattern includes six sizes, XS to XXL, with a deliberately relaxed, oversized and boxy fit and because it’s basically four lovely big rectangles, it’s also brilliant for using up your Super Chunky scraps.
Make it stripy, scrappy, rainbow, completely mismatched or all one colour. There really aren’t many rules here.
The colourful sweater shown was knitted using Knit Folk hand-dyed Super Chunky yarn.
This is a digital PDF knitting pattern. The link lasts 24 hours.
Download it, find yourself some yarn and go make your first sweater.
You can absolutely do this.

P.S if you are not quite there yet and need to lean the knit stitch and casting on and off, I have a very useful guide available here
